According to the relevant person in charge of the Alliance, the biomedical and sanitary materials industry currently accounts for less than 10% of the country's annual output value, but this medical and sanitary materials industry is entering a critical period of rapid growth and accelerated transformation, and there is great room for development in the future. It is understood that within half a year of the preparation of the Alliance, many projects led or participated by the main sponsors have been supported by the National Science and Technology Support Plan. Among them, the "fully degradable vascular stent" project, which is undertaken by BAIC as the first undertaking unit, is at the forefront of the world and is expected to take the lead in industrialization in Shenzhen and achieve a major breakthrough in the biomedical material industry.

Xi Tingfei, chairman of the Strategic Alliance for Biomedical Hygienic Materials Innovation and director of the Biomedical Engineering Research Center of the Shenzhen Research Institute of Peking University, told reporters that there were more than 80 enterprises (including diagnostic reagent enterprises) engaged in the production of biomedical hygiene materials in Shenzhen. In 2011, the output value of more than 5 billion yuan (including more than 3 billion pure biomedical enterprises) was achieved, accounting for 1/3 of the medical device industry in Shenzhen.

As an important part of medical devices, the annual output value of Shenzhen biomedical and sanitary materials industry has reached more than 5 billion yuan. This industry is entering a critical period of rapid growth and accelerated transformation, and is expected to gradually become a major force in promoting economic transformation and upgrading. The reporter learned yesterday from the newly established "Strategic Alliance for Biomedical Materials Innovation" that several projects of relevant member units have been supported by the National Science and Technology Support Plan.

It is reported that in recent years, the biomedical and sanitary materials industry has formed a number of scientific research institutions and backbone enterprises with a certain scale, advantages and characteristics, including listed companies Xianjian Technology, Xinlitai [27.40-0.36% shares of the research report], and the key incubation enterprises of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Industry-University-Research Base, Beike Airplane, etc. Several core universities and scientific research institutions have also carried out basic and applied research on medical hygiene materials. The research on cardiovascular interventional devices and tissue engineering carried out by the Peking University Research Institute, the research on orthopedic implants and medical dressings carried out by the Tsinghua and Shenzhen Research Institute, and the research on bone tissue engineering carried out by the Institute of Advanced Technology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences have all reached the international or domestic advanced level.
